Kevin Harris was called to the bar in 1999 and has practised in employment law since then. He worked for a trade union law firm and then a boutique city employment firm before qualification as a barrister and was then in independent practice for 15 years before joining the firm as a consultant. As well as being a barrister and consultant with the firm, Kevin has undertaken mediation training at the London School of Psychotherapy & Psychology, now part of Regents University and is able to provide workplace mediation. Kevin is a member of the Employment Lawyers Association, the Industrial Law Society and The International Association on Workplace Bullying and Harassment.
Kevin Harris is experienced in all areas of employment tribunal litigation, including Employment Appeal Tribunal claims. Kevin has particular experience in:
- Disability discrimination claims, particularly depression and mental health issues such as PTSD. Kevin represented the Claimant in London Underground Ltd v O’Sullivan where the employment tribunal awarded over £220,000 in compensation.
- Maternity discrimination claims, Kevin has represented several employees who were dismissed following taking maternity leave or who were subjected to unfair treatment because of childcare issues, including one sales manager was terminated whilst on maternity leave following a TUPE transfer, Kevin successfully negotiated a settlement of £70,000.
- Bullying and harassment at work, Kevin’s cases have included a senior manager who was bullied because of his race, two senior managers who were constructively dismissed because of their sexual orientation and a fund manager who was pushed out of work due to ADHD.
- Unfair dismissal, Kevin has conducted a large number of unfair dismissal cases, often involving complicated issues of TUPE and redundancy selection.
As well as litigation in employment tribunals, Kevin has advised both employers and employees on disciplinary and grievance procedures and drafting of employment contracts, directors service agreements and company policies. Kevin regularly advises on Employment Law settlement agreements, staff training, business reorganisation and redundancy.
