Employment Solicitors in North Finchley, Whetstone and Woodside Park.

Employment law constitutes a key area of our work.  Our team of lawyers who undertake this work include Lawrence Rodkin (partner) who has been carrying out employment law work since 1985, employment specialist counsel Kevin Harris (who was called to the bar in 1999), our experienced HR consultant Stephen Jarrett, and other fee earners.

We are a firm of solicitors with offices located conveniently close to North Finchley N12, Whetstone N20 and Woodside Park N12.

Our law offices are very close to Henley’s Corner on the North Circular Road, nearby to the A1/A41.  Street parking is available in the vicinity at no cost (including at Cyprus Road opposite – save between 2.00 pm and 3.00 pm).

Types of employment work we do

We act for both employers and employees and carry out a broad category of work in this area.

We are a litigation-based firm and represent clients with claims both in the employment tribunal and also in the high and county court.

We also have experience in dealing with injunction applications in particular in relation to non-compete covenants and breach of confidentiality obligations.

We also represent employees who have difficult situations with their employer. We set out examples below: –

  1. Work-related stress/depression following micromanagement, or bullying harassment by their line manager or where there have been excessive hours of work.
  2. Employees who have been placed upon performance management.
  3. Employees who have been subject to disciplinary charges and who wish to have legal assistance in the defence of these charges – such charges are frequently career-threatening.
  4. Representing employees who are pregnant or on maternity leave – and in particular in relation to proposals to make them redundant.
  5. Representing employees in the raising of grievances.
  6. Providing advice and acting for employees who are pursuing discrimination complaints – including for sex, race, disability and age.
  7. Representing employees in relation to settlement agreements.

Settlement agreements

We are very experienced at dealing with this type of work. We normally sign off a few of these for employees every week.

We take our duties very seriously and provide full advice to employees including:-

  1. As to their strict legal rights and the value of any claims they possess.
  2. The adequacy of any compensation package offered and in particular whether the package should be negotiated to a higher figure.
  3. The wording of the settlement agreement and in particular we will amend the agreement to make it commercially acceptable to being signed.
  4. To waiver or part waiver of non-compete covenants to make it reasonably possible for the employee to obtain suitable new employment after the termination of their contract.
  5. We also provide particular advice to directors and also employees with shareholdings and with additional complexities which arise due to these.

Instructing us

We are a very approachable firm.  We do not charge for initial telephone calls and would be pleased to see you at a fixed price meeting or telephone conference.  If your case is urgent, we will if possible, see you on the same day.

Our fee structure is clearly stated on our website and is also reasonable and competitive.

For employees in relevant cases, we are prepared to consider acting on a no win no fee basis.  For employers, we would consider fixed fees concerning various stages of the case.

We are also regularly appointed as the non-panel solicitors of legal expenses insurers.  We have a good relationship with insurers and have agreed hourly charging rates.  There is a statutory right for an insured person to appoint the solicitor of their choice once legal proceedings have been issued.

Legal expense insurance cover is usually contained as part of home contents policies.  If you have such cover, then please contact us, and we will assist you in making a claim and giving relevant advice required by insurers in order for cover to be granted.

Alternatively, if you have made a claim yourself and this has been rejected, please come to us, and we will see what we can do to ask insurers to review whether cover should be granted in particular sending an opinion from counsel.

For a case to be granted legal expense cover,  there needs to be a 51% prospect of success, and also the legal costs in bringing the claim need to be proportionate to the value of the claim and also there needs to be a reasonable prospect of recovering any award or compensation from the employer.

A very good summary is cover will be generally granted if a private person using their own private funds would themselves bring the claim.
